Hey there! I’m Jacey, and the handsome guy in blue is my husband, Adam.
Fern Hill Design is a bit more my project (for now, at least), but I have to give credit to Adam as he is the reason that FHD exists at all. In 2020, we decided somewhat randomly — okay, quite impulsively — that we should purchase a CNC Router (this was several weeks before the pandemic, so it wasn’t even a Covid baby!). Adam has always been the handyman + tinkerer + fixer-of-all-things, so it wasn’t anything new that he wanted to add a new toy to his fairly sizable tool collection. I, despite having what I would call an above-average comfort level for using tools ‘n things, barely knew what a normal router was at the time, let alone what a CNC could do. It only took a couple of internet videos and minimal convincing for the giant boxes to begin arriving on our doorstep. (Did I mention “impulsive”?)
Our first carve was terrifying. Because routers are terrifying. Now strap one to a robot and you, my friend, have nightmare fuel called a CNC Router.
We turned our ground-level living room into the in-home wood shop. I pored through social media accounts and discovered hundreds of makers. Obsession ensued. I purchased a scroll saw. Adam attempted to teach me table saw safety. I fell in love with the miter saw. So it began.
…And where we’re headed.
2022: Adam and I moved into our current home that summer (which sits atop eleven lovely fern-filled acres) and got married at the beach just a few months after that. Talk about a whirlwind! But I guess that’s just our (my?) kind of crazy. We now have our sights set on building a shop from the ground up…. eventually.
As full-timers in the hospitality industry, we have a collective 30+ years of service experience working weddings, mitzvahs, corporate events, and social gatherings. We love what we do and have dreams of combining our passion for the shop with our everyday work.
While Adam scratches his creative itch through custom furniture builds, my inner maker particularly l o v e s creating all things pretty: meaningful family name signs, beautiful welcome table decor, breathtaking centerpieces, stunning ceremony backdrops….
